Phil Greenwood was born in 1943 in Dolgellau North Wales. He studied at Hornsey and Harrow Colleges of Art and was taught by some of Britain's finest artists - Ken Howard RA, Charles Bartlett RE RWS and the late Christopher Saunders RA.
He has been a professional printmaker since 1971 and was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Printer-etchers in 1982. Phil has exhibited both nationally and internationally for the past 40 years and is widely acknowledged as one of the country's leading printmakers. He has had many one man shows and contributed to major exhibitions notably at the Victoria and Albert Museum and at the Tate Gallery. He is a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy and the Bankside Gallery London.
Internationally Phil has exhibited in Paris, Athens, New Zealand, Tokyo and osaka. His work can be found in both private and public collections such as the Arts Council, the British council, the Tate Gallery and the Greenwich Museum. Phil Greenwood is an artist whose work whether in print or paint is inspired by landscape. The images are an amalgamation of previous ideas and memories of visited places and times. He is concerned primarily with recreating the mood and atmosphere of a particular landscape rather than a literal representation.
